Partnering with Abode Communities to unlock 150 stalled homes for Coachella families
The Challenge: Blocked construction
Even with $141 million lined up in public funding, private investment, and tax credits, Villa Verde stalled for years while Abode Communities worked to pull their construction financing together.
That’s because a major portion of their funding package—about $114 million—couldn’t be put to work until the rest of their financing was in place.
The We Lift Catalyst Fund stepped in to help.
The Money: Turning $11.3M into $114M
The We Lift Catalyst Fund provided $11,279,693 of Villa Verde’s $53.8 million construction loan to fully finance the work.
With that final push, the project’s remaining $114 million funding package was unlocked, so the project could finally get moving.
The Community: More than housing
With shared green spaces, on-site services—including substance use treatment, job training, and parenting classes—and easy access to public transportation, Villa Verde brings more of the housing and support the community needs.
